DESCRIPTION:
•  Solid wood Storage Box - lined with paper printed with Chinese idiograms.
•  Consists of two pieces: the BOX & a custom Stand that holds the box up firmly.
•• Measures 16" Wide ... 12.5" Front to back ... 12.5" Tall. The frame adds another 13" to the height (Total about 25").
•  The stand is composed of 3/4" thick plywood - this indicates the date of manufacture to be approx 1960 - 1970.
•  Brass corners and reinforcement edges custom scroll cut - held in place with small brass brads & are hand 'tooled' to show intricate designs.
• Intricate latching hardware on the front of the box...this is BROKEN, so the box does not latch.
• Hinges were weak - so a pair of solid polished brass hinges have been installed.
• The Lid had no restraint to prevent 'Over opening' ... So a brass-tone chain was added. Now the lid has a limit to protect from the hyper extension of the lid.
• Note Final Photo: this is how the box will be shipped: with the frame legs inverted, and the box protected in the center. This reduction in volume will make shipping less expensive.

The box looks great, and functions well. We've used this ourselves for over 10 years as a special purpose toy box.
The brass hinges and limit chain are my own additions.
The LATCH does not function.
The wood finish is a bit glossier on the top than on the sides - the result of an extra coat of urethane on the top that was applied within the last year or two.
The finish overall is good, with some dents and scratches - none of which detract from the look of the Box/Frame.
Interior is fairly clean - no musty odor - no stains. Paper is not 100% intact, but it's very good. The irregular printing of the paper is a charm, not a flaw.
